Job Overview

We’re looking for a Junior Salesforce Developer to join a small, hands-on IT team based in Johannesburg. The primary focus of this role is to support the ongoing development and enhancement of the organisation’s custom-built Salesforce applications, which play a central role in business operations across multiple internal departments.

You will work on a combination of Salesforce development and configuration tasks, including building new features, improving existing modules, supporting internal users, and contributing to automation and data accuracy. The environment consists of both established and newly developed Salesforce components, offering exposure to the full development lifecycle — from requirements and design through to testing, deployment, and production support.

This position is ideal for a Junior Salesforce Developer or Salesforce Administrator who wants to deepen their development capability and work on systems that are actively used by internal teams across several regions. You will collaborate closely with the Group CIO and various business units to deliver solutions that enhance visibility, improve efficiency, and support day-to-day operations.

In addition to the Salesforce focus, the role includes secondary responsibilities — with full training provided — across:

• Front-end web development (WordPress, PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
• MySQL database design and queries
• Light ICT support and Microsoft/Power Automate flows

These secondary areas offer strong technical growth opportunities and contribute to a well-rounded development skill set within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary IT environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Contribute to the design, development, and enhancement of custom Salesforce applications, including Apex components, Lightning Web Components, and automation.
• Configure and maintain Salesforce objects, fields, permissions, page layouts, flows, and other platform features.
• Support internal users by building dashboards, reports, and tools that improve visibility and decision-making.
• Assist in managing the Salesforce development lifecycle, including testing changes in sandbox environments and promoting them into production using GitHub and Salesforce DevOps pipelines.
• Support front-end and web development initiatives using WordPress, PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, particularly where Salesforce data integrates with web platforms.
• Work with MySQL to design and maintain database structures, write queries for reporting and reconciliation, and support data-related investigations.
• Perform spot checks and basic data quality assurance across Salesforce, MySQL, and web applications to ensure information is clean, consistent, and reliable.
• Assist with light ICT support, such as setting up laptops, troubleshooting basic user issues, and supporting internal systems.
• Build and maintain simple Power Automate flows to connect Microsoft products with Salesforce and streamline internal processes.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into practical, well-structured technical solutions.

Minimum Requirements

• 2–3 years’ experience in a Salesforce Development or Salesforce Administration role, ideally within a commercial environment.
• Practical experience with Salesforce configuration and at least some exposure to Apex and/or Lightning Web Components (self-taught, coursework, or on-the-job).
• Working knowledge of SQL, preferably MySQL, including writing queries and understanding database structures.
• Strong attention to detail, with a natural inclination towards quality assurance and data accuracy.
• Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage tasks in a fast-moving environment.
• Good communication skills and confidence when engaging with internal business users.

Nice-to-Have (Exposure or Willingness to Learn)

• Experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for basic front-end or web development.
• Familiarity with GitHub or other version control tools.
• Experience working with custom-built Salesforce applications or Salesforce Data Cloud.
• Exposure to WordPress and PHP for website development and maintenance.
• Experience with Power Automate or similar workflow tools to connect Salesforce with Microsoft services.
• Understanding of basic DevOps concepts and Salesforce deployment pipelines.
• Any exposure to BI/analytics tools (e.g. Tableau, Einstein Analytics) will be advantageous.
• Interest in building a long-term career as a Salesforce Developer in South Africa’s financial services or technology sector.
