About the Company

This investor-backed technology company has built its own platform for creating personalised and interactive video at scale. Enterprise brands use it to send large numbers of individually tailored videos to their customers, with each video changing for the person watching it. The platform is live and already delivering campaigns for international clients.

The business is focused entirely on personalised and interactive video and runs from Johannesburg. The team is small and works closely with the CEO, so your work goes straight in front of enterprise clients.

Job Overview

We are looking for a senior, hands-on Motion Designer to design and animate the videos behind the company's personalised video campaigns. You will report to the Head of Video Production.

This is a pure production role. You will design the look and feel of each video and bring it to life in After Effects, with motion graphics, animation and avatar-led content. Because every video is personalised, you will build your work so that names, numbers, images and text can change for each viewer without breaking the design.

You will also edit video and sound, and create motion and design work for the company's own marketing and sales materials.

Duties and Responsibilities

Design and Concept

• Concept and storyboard ideas that fit each client's brand and campaign.
• Design the base look and feel of every video, including layout, typography and colour, before animation starts.

Motion Graphics and Animation

• Produce high-quality 2D motion graphics and animation in After Effects.
• Build After Effects projects ready for personalisation, so that text, images and data can change for each viewer.
• Produce avatar-led video segments with HeyGen and other AI tools.
• Edit video and sound in Premiere and Audition.

Delivery

• Work on several client projects at once and deliver on deadline.
• Work closely with the Head of Video Production on builds, rendering and quality checks.
• Create motion and design work for marketing materials, pitch decks, product demos and promotional videos.

Minimum Requirements

• At least 6 years' professional experience in motion graphics and animation.
• Expert-level Adobe After Effects.
• Strong design skills in layout, typography and look and feel, using Photoshop and Illustrator.
• Strong 2D motion graphics skills.
• Video editing and sound in Premiere and Audition.
• A strong showreel and portfolio of 2D motion graphics and design work.

Nice-To-Have

• Templater or other data-driven After Effects experience. (Strong advantage)
• Building After Effects templates for versioning or personalised video.
• HeyGen, ElevenLabs or other AI avatar and voice tools.
• After Effects expressions.
• Cinema 4D or Blender.
• A degree in graphic design, animation, art or a related field.

• Loves the craft and wants to stay hands-on.
• Copes well with deadlines and several projects at once.
• Open to using AI in the daily pipeline.
