An established international gaming technology and content provider, supplying licensed betting and casino businesses across regulated markets worldwide. This is a B2B business rather than a consumer-facing brand, building and licensing the products and platform that its clients take to market under their own names.

Regulation sits at the centre of everything the business does. It holds supplier licences, certifications and registrations across multiple jurisdictions spanning Latin America, North America, Europe, Africa and Asia, and its ability to enter new markets and sign new clients depends directly on getting the legal and compliance work right. South African operations are limited by comparison, so the work here is genuinely international in scope.

The legal and compliance function is small, commercially engaged and pragmatic. It works alongside commercial, product and engineering teams rather than at arm's length, and the culture places a high value on clarity, collaboration and integrity.

Job Overview

We are looking for a Legal and Compliance Advisor to join an in-house legal team, reporting to the Director of Legal and Compliance. The role has no direct reports and works closely with commercial, product and technical teams across the business.

The remit is deliberately broad. You will provide end-to-end legal and regulatory support across a B2B gaming product and service offering, covering multi-jurisdictional licensing, commercial contracting, data protection, financial crime and internal governance. It is the kind of role where you will touch a licence submission, a platform supply agreement and a data processing agreement in the same week.

This suits a lawyer who is already inside the gambling sector and wants breadth and international exposure rather than a narrow slice of one contract type. You will work directly under a senior legal leader with the support that brings, and the depth of experience you already have will shape how much of the mandate you carry from the outset.

Duties and Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance and Licensing

• Monitor and interpret gaming regulations across multiple regions as they apply to B2B suppliers.
• Support the maintenance and renewal of supplier licences, certificates and registrations, including the preparation of regulatory submissions.
• Track legislative and regulatory developments globally, assess the business impact and brief internal stakeholders on the response required.
• Liaise with regulators and external counsel on compliance queries, inspections and correspondence.

Commercial and Contractual

• Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including platform supply agreements, reseller agreements, white-label contracts, API integration agreements and NDAs.
• Advise commercial and account management teams on contractual risk, obligations and escalations.
• Maintain and improve standard contract templates and playbooks to support efficient deal execution.
• Support partnership due diligence and new market entry from a legal and compliance perspective.

Data Protection and Privacy

• Act as a subject matter expert on GDPR and other applicable data protection regimes relevant to the sector.
• Maintain and update data processing agreements, Records of Processing Activities, POPIA and PAIA manuals and privacy notices.
• Advise on data sharing arrangements with clients, third-party processors and technology partners.
• Support responses to data subject requests and data breach incidents.

Financial Crime and Responsible Gambling

• Maintain and enhance AML and CFT policies and procedures in line with applicable regulations and FATF guidance.
• Support the implementation of responsible gambling obligations applicable to B2B suppliers, including technical and contractual requirements passed through from clients.
• Conduct periodic internal compliance reviews and support external audits and regulatory examinations.

Internal Legal Support and Governance

• Provide day-to-day legal guidance across business functions, including product, finance, people and culture, and marketing.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of internal policies, procedures and compliance training material.
• Manage and instruct external legal counsel where required, with an eye on cost-effectiveness and quality of advice.
• Support corporate governance matters, including board minutes, entity management and subsidiary compliance.

Gaming Standards and Technical Compliance

• Advise on the legal and regulatory requirements relating to game and platform certification, including engagement with approved testing laboratories.
• Support the business in meeting the technical compliance standards imposed by regulators as a condition of supplier approval, including RNG certification, RTP requirements and game fairness obligations.
• Review and advise on technical compliance clauses in client agreements, ensuring obligations around certification, audit access and regulatory reporting are appropriately allocated.
• Work with product and engineering teams to identify the compliance implications of new features, game mechanics or platform changes ahead of release.

Minimum Requirements

• An LLB or an equivalent common law legal qualification. This does not need to be a South African LLB, and qualifications from other common law jurisdictions are welcome. Admission is not a requirement, although candidates who have completed articles are preferred.
• Demonstrable experience within the iGaming or gambling sector, gained in-house or through direct work for gambling businesses.
• Online gaming experience with international market exposure. Experience limited to South African land-based gaming will not be suitable for this role.
• A working understanding of B2B supplier obligations within regulated gaming frameworks, whether gained on the supplier side or from the client side of those same agreements.
• Experience drafting and negotiating technology and commercial agreements.
• Working knowledge of GDPR, POPIA and similar data protection legislation, and its practical application in a technology business.
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to distil complex regulatory requirements into clear, practical guidance.
• Commercial awareness, with the ability to balance legal risk against business objectives.
• Up to five years of post-qualification experience. Candidates with less will be considered where the gaming and B2B supplier experience is there.
• South African citizenship, permanent residence or an unrestricted right to work in South Africa. Work visa sponsorship is not available for this role.

Nice-To-Have

• Experience with AML and CFT compliance programmes in a gaming or fintech context.
• Familiarity with certification and technical compliance standards such as GLI, BMM or iTech Labs.
• Exposure to intellectual property, software licensing or open-source compliance matters.
• Experience supporting regulatory applications and submissions across multiple jurisdictions.
• Proficiency in a second language, particularly Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese or French.
